2003 Murano--transfer case poll!!

If you have a Nissan Murano and have had trouble with the transfer case cracking or failed....please go and respond to this poll!! We need to stand together to make Nissan admit that their transfer cases are faulty and should be recalled!

http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/66-problems/7413-transfer-case-poll.html

Transfer case poll on Nissanmurano.org.

On March 2, 2011, my Murano started making a strange clicking noise under the hood. It sounded like there was a rock in the tire or a loose part under the front end. By March 3, 2001, the noise was upgraded to a loud banging, with the whole front end of the vehicle shaking. I took the Murano to my mechanic Touchette Auto in Ottawa on March 4, 2010 for a diagnostic and was later contacted March 7, 2010 and told that the noise was a transmission issue and that I had to take it to a transmission specialist. I started my search online for problems of this nature and was astounded to find that the CVT transmission issue is a huge problem in the 2003 Nissan Murano....so much so that I am surprised that a class action lawsuit has not been taken up with Nissan!> > > > I contacted my warranty company and they advised me that the transmission issue would be covered by Nissan because of the Extended Warranty related to the CVT tranmission for up to 10 years/120,000 km. I was relieved to hear this and promptly took my Murano to receive attention at 417 Nissan, 1599 Star Top, Gloucester, Ontario (613)749-****. Today, March 8, 2010, I received a call from John GOOD of 417 Nissan with my diagnostic results. I was told that the problem was NOT the transmission but gave me a list of problems as follows:> > -cracked transfer case> > -transmission seal (x2--apparently for each end of the transmission.)> > -catalytic converter> > -O2 sensor> > -switch control unit

> -subframe> > > The quote for this repair? $6333.00 plus diagnostic cost! Mr. GOOD said that none of this was covered by the extended warranty!! I went back to A-Protect Warranty Corporation and was advised that the Nissan quote was ridiculous and that all of those issues are related to the transmission. They said that they could direct me to another transmission mechanic who would repair the vehicle for much cheaper and that they would only cover $1000.00 of the repairs.> > > > I know that I am not the first person to contact Nissan Canada regarding this issue. I am not being unreasonable when I say that Nissan is trying to pass the buck by claiming that the transfer case/seals are not covered by the Extended CVT Warranty. It has been the subject of many complaints and I know that Nissan has paid for the repairs when they have been pushed against the wall. The CVT Transmission has been a headache for Nissan and I can\'t believe that when customers ask for compensation, they are being turned away with a \"sorry, we can\'t help you.\"> > > > How can a part-the transfer case-and the seals on either end of the transmission---which are all directly related to this faulty CVT transmission not be considered part of the warranty coverage? If I tell you right now that I don\'t have $6333.00 to fix the vehicle and I drive it until the transmission blows up, will Nissan cover the damage then(under the Extended Warranty of course!) > > I have now spent the last 2 weeks being bounced back and forth, trying to have someone offer assistance in this matter. I have spent hours on the phone with Nissan customer service reps in Canada and the US and no one wants to help me. I have never been so frustrated with a company and I will not just walk away quietly, accepting the cop out of Nissan on standing by their product!! I am viewing over 500 complaints on Edmunds.com regarding Nissan\'s unwillingness to help their customers. That is only one website.....I can list many more!

i have a 2004 nissan murano same problem transfer case cracked

Guest

Mine cracked too. Same issues with warranty company it was not cover.

Bought an extended warranty for 599.00 waited 30 days and sent it to a shop. 100 dollars deductible, but it was better than dealing with manufacturer warranty jerks.

Guest

My 03 murano never gave me a sign at all, i heard a banging sound now and one minute later my traansfer case splits in half. And of course no extended warranty covers for the part or the repair.120000 miles well maintained and now is sitting on my driveway because i don't have 2,300 dollars to fix it. It's a shame nissan don't want to own to their mistake.

Guest

We bought my wifes Nissan Murano used and took it to the dealer to fix some repairs on it. We drove it home and my wife took out the car later and broke down on the side of the road.

We contacted Nissan and brought it in to be repaired again. Thought everything was good and then my wife keeps hearting a sound that gets louder as she goes faster and took it back in. NIssan is asking for $3900 for transfer case and we just paid $1800 a month before.

They are crooks and I also have a household of 4 and now need to save up to pay these thieves. Class action lawsuit!

Guest

2003 Murano never driven in any type of stressful situation for the AWD system. Transfer Case popping and knocking out of the blue.

It will be Mazda or Toyota next trip Nissan. Thanks for looking after your loyal customers!

Guest

I just received the bad news that my 03 Nissan Murano "transfer case" needs to be replaced. They want almost $2000, and that's without any other issue this "transfer case" might of damage.

I hate this car, and Nissan because they know there's so many complains about it. They should re-call this, and they would have more loyal customers.

Guest

:( very very unhappy with my 2003 nissan murano.. this thing with the transfer case is crazy.

I try and keep my car maintained and this problem should have never happened. I am very disappointed in this car.

Guest

Add to My previous post. I'm from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Not sure why it put me in that I was from BC.

Guest

I'm in. Girlfriends ''03 murano transfer case just caved.

They want $5000 for replacement. They say that try can give me 10% off the bill.

Lets get some answered and make a stand. Why can't they admit there is a problem and put out a recall.

Guest

05 Murano, lets get this together.. Please because this is unfair....

Rusted floors in nissan altima 2002 - ****

I too have had both a 2002 and a 2005 nissan altima, and both had the same problem of the under floor rusting out on the passenger side. It is amazing that Nissan have not addressed the problem as there have been many complaints. If anyone knows of any compensation or repair being offered by Nissan, I would love to know. I have loved the Nissan Altima but surely am now beginning to second guess my choices. Perhaps someone would know who I would contact at Nissan to lodge my complaint there. if the problem began with the 2002 , one would think it would have been addressed by 2005

I just found out I have the same problem. with my 2005 Altima at 147k with a rusted out floor on the passenger side.

Took it to the dealer who would fix at my cost. Called Nissan Canada and they would not pick up the tab for the repair.

Guest

I was not left out. I too have a Nissan Altima 2005 with rust under the floor, driver side; A big freaking hole it is.

The rust starts from inside the panel around the drain hole, this leads to a design defect and Nissan should be liable. Who in the right mind puts a drain hole on the bottom of the car and expect to be Ok? it is a very *** thing do to because is not sealed 100% and the water makes inside the panel and this is why the panel rusts. The car is garaged all year round. I spray washed under many times during winter and well maintained.

I am very pissed off because this is the 2nd issue with this car. Last year I had to replace the crank shaft position sensor myself because the recall did not covered it. The reason was because a software upgrade should have re-solved the problem, that was just Engineering ***, it didn't work.

Do a lot of diligence when you buy a NISSAN. Good luck!

I am dealing with the same problem on my Ultima 2005 now. 80,000 and 2 rusty area in the floor - on in the passenger side, the other one on the driver's side.

I called Nissan and filed a complain with them. I am not sure if they come back and pick up the tab.

Yes, the rust comes from inside, not outside, because of the drains. It is an engineering flaw and they should be liable for it.

Santa Fe, NM NISSAN Dealer DECEITFUL

On my summer trip driving from PHoenix, AZ to Colorado I had overheating problems. I pulled into the dealership in Santa Fe New Mexico and was told I needed a transmission flush and new battery. Then the manager came back and told me that my CVT was probably bad and it might still overheat. He couldn't promise when he'd have it fixed and suggested that it could be 3 weeks. I asked if I could drive it. He said, yeah, just pull over if it over heats. The car broke down and I had to be towed 110 miles to the Nissan Dealership in Pueblo, Co. Nissan refuses to pay back the charges or even talk to the dealer for me. What makes me really angry is that I filed the claim in July 2012 and today, Sept. 20, 2012 I got the message. "You have to work through the individual dealer to get compensation." I am angry because they could have told that to me in July-3 months ago!!! Wasted my time on the phone and faxing papers. Wasted my energy with a false hope of some kind of remuneration. Nissan is DECEITFUL!

Nissan 2006 transmission fail

My Nissan PF 2006 is been sitting in my garrage for the past 6 months, the transmission is not shifting, I have to pay someone to either rebuild or put a brand new transmission in, I'm a single mother and I can't afford it... so i'm putting money together to get this done... Nissan should be responsable for this issue. I would never buy another Nissan ever and I'm also advising my friends and family not to buy nissan's any more, i always thought that I will have a car that will last me over 200,000 miles but I was wrong, I'm so dissapointed of this brand car.

NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!

My 2007 xterra has a faulty fuel sending unit plug that has started to melt, which can cause a fire to start in my gas tank or cause my car to break down. This is not a wear and tear item, it is a manufacturer's defect. Because it was not a recalled part, nissan says I'm fully responsible. Makes me sick to my stomach that they will not take responsibility for this. I can't afford to repair it, so hopefully my car won't catch fire while I'm driving it. Nissan corporate office employees…you are heartless and only care about the bottom line…not the safety and well being of your customers. I will never buy nissan again just for the terrible customer service and the wretched disregard for their customer's safety. Shame on you! epayson@***.com

:cry :cry :cry I forgot all cars should have a life time warrenty the car is 6 years old and most likly has high miles get over it also you may not care about your safety and well being since your still driving it GET A LIFE OR HOBBY THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO LOST MONEY TO REAL WARRENTY ISSUES YOU WILL NOT ME MISSED :cry :cry :cry

Guest

engine and transmission is warrantied for 60000 miles. if you wanted a 100000 mile warranty on engine you should have bought a gm chrysler or kia.

Epayson

Fuel sending unit plugs are supposed to last for 150,000 miles, it is frustrating when a part does not last as long as it should. I had the same problem with my Xterra.

The quality of Nissan products, and their customer service has gone down drastically over the years. I will never purchase another one of their cars either.

BTW ALQ... this sight is called pissedconsumer.com, if someone is such a loser that they are looking at complaints that people post only to negatively comment on them...you need to get a life, cheese ***!Hp

Guest

Car is 6 years old!. Yo expect a forever guarantee. Do not be so ceap and get it fixed if it bothers you, and get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scamed at nissan dealer

The dealership finance department added $2,000 of extended warranty that i told them idid not want or need on the Nissan Sentra i purchase under the pretence of reduceing the interest rate from 8 to 4% after i told him i would not pay 8% interest rate. He knew i would read the paper before signing, because i told him this was taking to long, and that i need to get going. After noticeing the problem i called the owner and general manager, i was told he was out of the office and was directed to leave him a message. No responce,I wil NEVER buy another Nissan

Andre at Billson truck center Port Elizabeth made my driver wait 2 hrs just for a price on a part

We phoned Andre @ Nissan (Billson Truck center) In Port Elizabeth for a price on a part he said we must send our Nissan Cabstar in rather then he could check it and give us a price on the part we wanted. We then took our driver out of his schedule and sent him to Billson's ONLY TO HAVE MY DRIVER WAIT 2 HOURS TO NO AVAIL. I EVENTUALLY TOLD MY DRIVER TO COME BACK BECAUSE MY DELIVERIES WERE PILING UP. ALL WE NEEDED IS A PRICE!!!!!!!! THEN WE PHONED ANDRE AND HE NEVER APPOLOGIESED OR ANYTHING HE JUST SAID OWE YOUR DRIVER HAS GONE. AND THAT HE WOULD PHONE US BACK JUST NOW WITH A PRICE WE STILL WAITING. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE HAD ABSOLUTLEY PERTHETIC SERVIVICE FROM NISSAN PORT ELIZABETH!!!! I BOUGHT TWO TRUCKS FROM THEM PREVOUISLY IN 2003 AND 2004 AND THEIR AFTER SALES SERVICE WAS ABSOLUTLEY SHOCKING. i vowed then never to go back and I wouldn't have had it been that someone else in Port Elizabeth been able to give me the part that I needed. 2004 Nissan Maxima excelleration

I was driving into the parking lot of my church. Slowly pulled my car into the parking space and it accelerated and crashed into the church office. Body shop has repaired car and am about to go pick it up but am apprehensive about driving it. Nissan said they cannot find anything wrong with the car. The car has less than 50,000 miles, never been in an accident. Insurance company is being very helpful, but feel that Nissan has the blame and needs to take responsibility for a defect in the car. Will keep you posted on what happens next.

Another *** who gets foot caught under floor mat and has accident. Driver error and they blame the car. What fools :( :( :( :(

Guest

You probably got your floor mat stuck under the accelerator pedal....I've done it more than once and I had to stand on the brake pedal praying I didn't run into anyone. You would be surprised how easily this can happen and you do not realize that it was something as simple as that.

Nissan is a great product and they have never had this concern.....maybe you should remove your floor mats. Good luck

Problem of spares

I had brought Micra Nissan from Bhagat Nissan, Mohali in November, 2011. Being winters so the AC of the company was not in use. But in mid of March I approached the company that The AC of the car is not functioning properly so kindly check the same. It was conveyed to me that there was leakage in the AC gas pipe and we will refill the gas and mean time order for the fresh pipe to replace the same for that they said company has delivery time of 22 days. Then I again visited the company in July, 2012 but in vain. After that I am repeatedly contacting the service people but in vain. Today I called up a company representative to ask him about the present status but he said till now we have not received any confirmation from the company. I conveyed them that by this reply you are insisting me to approach the consumer court and the gentlemen on phone has a surprising and shocking reply ( sir you are most welcome to go to the courts) after listening this now I have totally lost faith in the company and will off sure go to the court with this issue. At last I would say that a company like nissan not able to manage their customers in India when they are still trying the capture the market then how can we trust on them to further buy any product of the company

Nissan Corp refuses to share key codes w/ owners & dealers--WHY???

I have called Corporate Nissan customer service on 3 separate occasions trying to get a key code for a '94 300ZX that I just purchased from a private party. Because the car came with only one key, which is badly worn, I need a new factory key to be able to use all doors and the trunk. While they can easily access that information based on my VIN number, their "policy" forbids them to divulge a key code to the owner of the vehicle, and they also refuse to provide any assistance to my local Nissan dealer. Since the car is over 10 years old, the key code info is not on the dealer's database. Corporate Nissan says it's a security issue. WTF????? Why does Corporate Nissan keep such a database if they won't use the information for the benefit of their customers and dealers?? I have owned Nissans for over 30 years, but if this is how they "support" their customers and dealers, it will be the last one I ever buy. I'm not through with this yet--I plan to call them every day until it is resolved and I also plan to file a complaint with the Federal Transportation Administration--having a working key to my car is a safety issue and they are violating my rights as a consumer by refusing me important information regarding the safe operation of my vehicle. Customer service is apparently an oxymoron with Nissan Corporation!!

Nissan Pathfinder 2006

Purchased my Nissan pathfinder brand new in 2006, cash with an extended warranty up to 100,000 miles. Now my vehicle just passed the 100 k miles and my transmission is full of coolant fluid. Same issue reported by so many others. Nearly got killed when my car stalled in the middle of the highway with my 3 boys in the car. Nissan hasn't responded to my request, they are evaluating the issue. But now the dealer wants to sell me a new car at employee cost?........ I'm trying to find out if Nissan has done anything to help you fix this problem or do most of you got ignored? Not waisting my time with them, going straight to a lawyer and consumer reports with this ignored defect by Nissan.

2008 Nissan Rogue S engine failure and replacement

I purchased a 2008 Nissan Rogue S brand new. It is only four years old but in the last month the A/C stopped working. In the last week the vehicle had to be towed to a dealer cause it stalled in the middle of the road. I have no extended warranty and no help from Nissan. I am so disappointed and stressed out. The dealership is quoting me $5,700 for the engine and an extra $1,700 for the A/C. Is it worth $7,400 to repair? I don't know what to do :( I'm open for suggestions!

2008 Nissan Rogue Needs New Engine?!

I bought a used 2008 Nissan Rogue on July 4, 2012 from Nissan of McKinney in McKinney, TX. My mom recommended I go there because she had purchased a vehicle from them 3 weeks prior, and was told she would receive a free car payment if she recommended someone to their dealership. They screwed her out of her free car payment, saying I did not put enough money down on my vehicle! After having the vehicle for about a week, I notice that when I start it in the afternoons (when it's well above 100* outside) white smoke is coming out of the exhaust pipe. I called the dealership, and they told me they would need to look at it, but it's not an emergency. Just a few days ago (I've had the car for less than 30 days at this point) I noticed my oil light was flickering on my way to work. I checked the oil, and it's EMPTY. No leak under the car and everything is clean under the hood. I took it the dealership the next morning, wait around for about an hour for a rental car, and get a call around 5pm. They have to replace the engine and catalytic converter!! LUCKILY I fought for the extended warranty that they charged me for from the beginning... (When I went to sign paperwork, the finance guy said "there's no warranty". That's a different story.) It's been one thing after another, and at this point I'm ready to tell them to keep it. I'm BEYOND pissed.

Nissan sold me a defective/dangerous car

Bought my Cube in 7/09, just 3 1/2 months later car had problems stalling, no response when pushing on gas pedal, then excelled on it's own, slowed down, just stopped while driving it& thought my daughter & I were going to be killed in the car when it stopped during the peak traffic in the pouring rain. Learned transmission was bad, now happened again 3rd transmission haven't owed 3 yrs yet. Nissan will not replace car and says it's safe, I fear for our lives since there is NO warning lights when it happens, very scared for our lives. Asked Nissan North America Corp to help make us feel safe, they just want to extend the warranties but cannot prove to us what is causing this car to do this. It is very DANGEROUS when it happens but you have to control on what the car will do wants it starts to happen. We are willing to trade the car for a new car and want Nissan to compensate some of the cost. They seem to NOT care about us as a hard working Military Family, keeping money in their pocket is more important. NO care should be on it's 3rd transmission in less than 3 years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated or HELP

Nissan won't stand behind faulty product

I recently purchased a used 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, I have purchased Nissans prior to this and thought because this would be comparable to my previous auto, 2001 X-Terra. But to my dismay I have found it to be a very expensive piece of junk. I have had the vehicle for 3 months, I paid over $16,000.00 for it, it had 110+thousand miles on it when I purchased it, my X-Terra had 160,00+ and not 1 problem in 5 yrs. Nissans are known to go 250,000 miles or better. I have taken very good care of my vehicles as they are my main mode of transportation. Last week end I was on my way home when all of a sudden I experienced an awful vibration while driving down the interstate, I pulled over and shut the vehicle off and then started it back up again, it seem to be running fine until I tried to move it, it then started to vibrate and shake again. I then opened the radiator to check the fluid and found the radiator to be full of tranny fluid. I called the dealer and they asked for the mileage and VIN number. They also said they would warranty the radiator but not the transmission but only up to 80,000. I was really getting aggravated so I started to search the symptoms on the web, only to find that I am not the only one with this issue, it appears to be a design flaw with the 2006 Nissan Pathfinders and Nissan has not done a recall on them, although they did extend the warranty for the radiator assembly and transmission from 36 months/36,000 miles to 96 months/80,000 miles, including damage, repairs, replacement, and related towing resulting from this issue if you purchase the vehicle new. So this reinforces that they are aware of the issue and that they should recall or make good for the problem. I contacted Nissan Assist and they informed me that there was an issue and that they were aware, I explained that I purchased the vehicle from a dealer and that it was over the warranty mileage and they stated that Nissan may assist me anyways where I had just purchased the vehicle, and that I needed to get the problem diagnosed by a Nissan dealer and then call consumer affairs with the estimate. So I did as I was told hoping that Nissan would stand behind their product and assist me. The service person said that this was a common problem and that they would have to replace the transmission and the radiator. This was going to cost 6K or better. I called Nissan consumer affairs and gave them the estimate and they said they would not do anything and that I would have to figure out how to get it repaired on my own.

I think a manufacturer should make buyers aware of simple sloutions to potential problems with their vehicles. If they have doubled their new car warranty, they surely knew there was an issue.

For $150.00, an external trans fluid cooler could have been installed at owner cost- saving nearly $5800.00. The internal coolers were used from 05 to 09 so expect to see a lot of complaints as folks reach the 100k+ mark. I believe if Nissan would have just made their customers aware of the issue, and the fix, they wouldn't have to wait for someone to be killed before they take action.

But hey, what the heck, I guess they don't care about the little guy, huh? I saw a commercial today that claims they sell a new car every minute or something............

Guest

:cry I just needed to coment on this. I am not aware of a single person out in the common world that looks at a car with over 100000 miles on it and thinks it should be trouble free fo anothe 150000.

I personnaly own 2 vehicles with over 100000 mile son it and if one died tomorrow it would not surprise me they are old vehicles with high miles. Warrantys are not intended to provide you with repair free vehicles for 250000 miles thats insane to even consider. Even the few companies out there that offer a ""100000" mile bumper to bumper warranty have all kinds of clauses written into it and call it a "Limited" warranty. Because they are not going to cover anything that could possibly happen.

Warrantys are not insuranc eand not a guarentee. Also you stated "I have purchased Nissans prior to this and thought because this would be comparable to my previous auto, 2001 X-Terra. " so by your own admission you did not research anything about the vehicle you just ASSUMED that because your 01 exterra gave you no problems so would this other nissan. We we all know what happens when you ASSUME.

The fact that nissan more than doubled the original warranty is a testiment to the companies commitment to do the right thing. The company should not have to go bankrupt to do the right thing. Note also that the exteded warranty for this issue was based on if you purchase the vehicle new which you did not. SO you did not purchase it new and it was past the already extended warranty time period and milage period by a substantial amount, yet you feel that Nissan should still be responsible.

Let splay a game and pretend for a min that you did actually pay the full retail value new for the Car, and drove it from 2006 till today. YOu would still be 30000 miles past the warranty that was extended. They advised you that perhaps the Dealer you bought it from would do something because some states have laws to protect consumers for a very minimal amount of time following the purchase of a vehicle. Like 3 months or 3000 miles whichever cvomes first after that even used car dealers are not typically responsible for issues that could arise.

you also said above that " I was really getting aggravated so I started to search the symptoms on the web, only to find that I am not the only one with this issue, it appears to be a design flaw with the 2006 Nissan Pathfinders and Nissan has not done a recall on them," so this means you know how to research but you didnt bother because of your above assumption. So the fact you didnt research common problems with a vehicle, it now becomes the manufacturers problem when the car is 74000 miles past the original warranty and 30000 miles past the warranty that was extended by nissan as a good faith gesture to the consumer. Im so tired of people not taking responsibility for thier actions and owning up to thier mistakes. Here is a tip for all car buyers.

NOBODY out there offers a warranty that covers anything that could happen to your car and NOBODY out there covers anything on a car after 100000 miles. That is a constant in the automotive universe.

so if you are buying a car with over 100000 miles on it you should expect things to break and expect to have to pay for it. Educate yourselves before you buy and make smart choices instead of blaming others for your follish choices.
